The Howdunit Series
The most magnificent event occurs on random weekend days in my neighborhood. A man sets up two tables full of books selling for either 50 cents or one dollar. You would think that these tables would hold the occasional gem, but every single time, I can leave there with my arms overflowing with great finds.
Last week, I was able to pick up two books in The Howdunit Series. These books are made for writers of mystery novels to be used as reference material. The two I managed to snag are “Deadly Doses, A Writer’s Guide to Poisons” and “Scene of the Crime, A Writer’s Guide to Crime-Scene Investigations”.
I haven’t had a chance to give either of these a thorough read, but I have flipped through a few pages. What I’ve seen so far appears to be very helpful. Especially due to the fact that the current book I’m writing centers around victims of poison attacks. At least now I can get my facts straight.
Apparently, there are boatloads of books in this series, and they are available on Amazon for pretty low prices:

The next two on my list are “Police Procedural” and “Private Eyes” since I’m pretty weak in my knowledge of those areas. Here’s hoping the Book Guy has them next time.

These books are great. I first saw them about 300 years ago in the library and have since gotten my grubby little hands on most (if not all) of them.
You might also want to check out the ones on the court system and hospitals.
