Peter Jackson to Produce “The Hobbit”

Finally! “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien is by far my favorite book. I loved the animated film, but ever since Peter Jackson directed “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, I’ve been antsy for more. I honestly believe that no one else could have created a better movie adaptation of those novels than Jackson. Yes, as with all books that are taken to film, there were some adjustments and cuts that had to be made to the story, such as the removal of Tom Bombadil. However, Jackson was still able to do this and be true to the story. Sometimes movies ruin the stories found in books, but Jackson never did this to “The Lord of the Rings”.

So, I’ve said since then, “If I trust anyone to make my favorite book of all time into a movie, it would be Peter Jackson.” I just didn’t think it would ever happen.

New Line Cinema, MGM and Jackson have all been in battle over the possiblity of “The Hobbit” film for what seems like several years now. New Line owns the rights to produce while MGM owns the rights to distribute. Jackson and New Line were in battle over payments from the trilogy. There was a lot of bickering going on for a while. It finally seems that everyone has come to a resolution.

“The Hobbit” film will actually be two films, and Jackson will produce both. No director has been decided upon as of yet, but I’m hoping that Peter Jackson will play a strong role in this. Filming is scheduled to begin 2009, however, if the writers strike drags on, then production will be pushed back. No script has been written for “The Hobbit” as of yet, and the development of this cannot begin until the strike is over.

To say that I am excited is an understatement. I have been waiting for this announcment for a long time. I truly believe this is going to be an amazing movie, and Peter Jackson will do this masterpeice of fiction justice, just as he did for “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Now studios. Please give the writers what they are asking so someone can write a script!
