JenWriter’s First February Fiction Contest
Recently, I have really enjoyed a couple of short story writing contests. Because of this, I have been inspired to do my very own short story contest on this blog. My guest contributor, Cappy, will be helping me out with the subject, word count and judging.
The contest officially begins on Friday when the subject and word count will be posted. There is no entry fee. This is simply to be a fun writing exercise for anyone who would like to participate. Oh, and there are a couple of prizes, too!
February Fiction Contest Rules
- There is no entry fee for this contest. Limit of one entry per person.
- Contest entries must be e-mailed to fictioncontest@jenwriter.com.
- Paste your entry into the body of an e-mail. Any email attachments will not be read.
- Put “February Fiction Contest” in the subject of the e-mail.
- Include a title at the beginning of your story.
- Please place your name, address, e-mail address, website address and word count after your story. We will be blind judging these entries.
- The subject and word count will be posted at 9AM EST on February 1, 2008. At that time, you may begin writing your short story. All entries must be submitted by Saturday, February 9 at 11:59PM EST. The story must touch on the subject, and the length must be within the word count.
- Judging will begin on February 10, 2008 and the winners will be announced and contacted on Monday, February 25, 2008.
- All late stories will be disqualified.
- Winning stories will be posted on this blog with the winner’s byline for an unlimited amount of time on a non-exclusive basis. Winners retain reprint rights, and all other entries retain all rights to their stories.
Prizes
This contest has been developed in order to inspire creativity and have fun with other writers in the online community. This is not a “professional company” so there are no large cash prizes.
First Place: Your story will be published on this blog with your byline and a link to your blog or website, if applicable. You will also win a copy of Stephen King’s On Writing and Strunk and White’s Elements of Style.
Runner Up: Your story will be published on this blog with your byline and a link to your blog or website, if applicable.
Good luck to everyone!

This sounds like fun! I can’t find the subject or word count specifications though… can you tell me? I’m probably just overlooking them… silly ole me… hehe.
No problem! The word count and subject was posted later in the week here:
