Kudos to Libba Bray
Libba Bray, you rock.
Last night, I finished The Sweet Far Thing, the last in the Gemma Doyle trilogy.
One word: Wow.
I don’t want to share much of the plot because of spoiler reasons. Basically, this is a young adult fantasy about a late 19th century girl who has the power to enter The Realms, a magical place between our world and the one beyond. When the magic runs wild, Gemma must defend The Realms and her world from the corrupted creatures of the Winterlands. It’s about magic, yes. But it’s also about friendship, courage, love, family, ambition and hope.
Now, I’m going to gush. I usually don’t put such breathlessly excited book reviews on here, but I can’t help it with this one. It is one of the best series I’ve ever read. Ever. It joins the short list of books that has made me cry. It was one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever heard. I absolutely fell in love with the characters, all flawed and human. There’s so much passion in it. You can tell that the author put her heart and soul into the story, and it comes across in the pages. I loved ALL of the characters, even the evil ones. Okay, maybe not Cecily, but she was just a brat.
The last book is a bit of a monster at 819 pages. I started out slow because I didn’t want the series to be over yet, but my resolve quickly faded. I gobbled up the last 300-400 pages in one night. It. is. amazing.
Anyway, if you haven’t read these books yet, please go out and buy them. Even if you don’t usually read YA. I’m not a teen, and I loved it.

It’s so funny that you wrote about this, because I finally had the time to restart A Great and Terrible Beauty today. I actually wish I didn’t have so much going on so I could finish it!
Read it!
I am glad to here it is good. I had picked up as soon as it hit the shelves but have yet to start it.
