Weekly WIP Status Report
After my rant post last week about writers actually writing every day, I had to take a little time off this weekend due to way too many obligations at once. I was able to write a few hundred words on Saturday, but I took both Friday and Sunday off from writing. Bad me. But I managed to get two major grad school assignments completed and turned in, so I’m back on track tonight with the novel writing. I’m going to dedicate several hours to the WIP tonight in hopes of getting a couple of thousand words written.
Looking back at my WIP Status Report from last week, I realized that I’ve only written about 5,000 words since then, for a total of 33,381, as compared to the 10,000 words before. This isn’t really the progress that I was hoping for, especially since I want to have the first draft completed by the time I go on my trip to Italy in May. The plan is to complete the first draft, go on my vacation, let the draft sit for a week and then come back home to begin the editing process. That way, the story will be completely out of my mind and I’ll have a chance to relax before plunging into the revisions. But in order to do that, I need to pick up the pace back to where I was a week ago.
So, my goal? I’d like my total word count to be 43,000 by next Monday. Off I go!

Jen,
I absolutely believe in taking a day or two off now and then. I know some authors feel they “must” write every day, and most days I do write. But sometimes it’s nice to just give your imagination a couple of days to run in a new direction or ponder the old one.
By the way, I saw your post on Sean’s blog about the blog tour, and wanted to let you know that you are offically invited to take part if you like YA fantasy.
This is true. Nothing wrong with a day off here and there.
I’d love to participate in your blog tour. I’ve sent you an email about it!
Boy, I could use a day or two off, for sure. I’ve been immersing myself so deep in the “publishing biz” with books and conferences and blogs, and of course writing and writing, that I could really use a bit of a break. Preferably one that involves a white sandy beach and an attentive senorita with a tray full of pina coladas, but I’ll take what I can get.
