Meniscus? Why must you be torn?

I went to the doctor today and was told I most likely have a meniscus tear. I’m being sent to get an MRI to make a definite prognosis, but with my symptoms, the type of fall I had and the part of my knee where it hurts most, he’s pretty sure that’s what’s going on.

I’m kind of bummed about it but happy to get it taken care of ASAP. Hobbling around New York City on a knee that feels like it’s going to give out at any minute isn’t a fun thing. I should have gone sooner. The longer I’ve hobbled around, the worse the pain and wobbliness has gotten.

It does mean I might have to spend the rest of the summer resting and/or on crutches. Luckily, I have the ability to work from home for my job if the doctor orders me home for a few days. My schoolwork can also be done from home so I won’t be missing any classes. It won’t be fun, but at least things won’t suffer too badly because of it. I’ll probably even have more time to study…

…and write. Don’t get me wrong. I’m bummed I won’t be running around this summer, playing frisbee or going to Great Adventure. But what being stuck at home means to me is that I have more time to write. And honestly, that will make up for it. I really love writing. One of the greatest feelings in the world is when the inspiration strikes, the words flow from your hands and the excitement overwhelms you because of what you are creating. And I love the book I’m writing so much that sometimes I find myself grinning like a fool while I’m writing it. So, there’s something positive in all this.

I also really want to post some more writing and reading related posts this week. I just got distracted today by all the knee stuff.

Check back tomorrow!
